Crinkly Eyes Look Good on Santa, But Not You

This is part 1 in a series of 3, which is designed to help you take action to protect and enhance the health and appearance of your skin. First, wrinkles are caused by thinning or atrophy of the skin and dryness or loss of moisture. Plus, the everyday movement of your eye muscles breaks down the structural collagen fibers, which leads to wrinkles.

Follow these four simple steps to improve the health and appearance of your eyelids. First, begin by applying a collagen breakdown inhibitor. An example is a product that contains a very effective Vitamin A medicine. Second, apply a UV protective agent that prevents premature collagen breakdown, such as Rejuvenate. Third apply a mild surface skin tightener and moisturizer that effectively communicates with receptors in your skin. My recommendation is to use a product we carry here at AnewSkin Dermatology, called Peptide Plus Eye Treatment each morning, which provides for an immediate skin tightening effect. Fourth, Botox balancing will help avoid the daily excessive muscle breakdown of collagen fibers that lead to deepening of wrinkles. A three minute treatment 2 or 3 times per year will allow your skin to smooth and heal. Taken together these four steps can make a tremendous difference in the health and attractiveness of your eyes, one of your most important attributes. Next, we will explain “Dark Circles,” the causes and the treatments.

Hair Raising News: American Laser Centers Bankrupt!

The American Laser Centers have filed for bankruptcy which could mean that all those laser treatment “packages” may turn into a worthless “bag,” reports Reuters. Confused, people who went into the ALC never even saw a physician and didn’t know it was not a medical practice. By skirting the law, such businesses could deceive consumers into believing a doctor was on the premises and would evaluate their condition, or at least would be summoned if harm comes during treatments by non-physicians. According to Carolyn Jacob, M.D., member of the ASDS, laser hair removal is a medical surgical procedure that is more than just “zapping” unwanted hairs. It is a medical procedure that reduces the amount of hair growth through a series of treatments, usually given every six to eight weeks, and should be performed by a qualified physician under direct, on-site supervision of a physician. Dr. Rosio, with offices in El Dorado Hills and Auburn, wants to reach out to people who have lost time and money in laser treatment packages that they can no longer redeem. When a patient with an unredeemable laser treatment package from the American Laser Center buys a package with AnewSkin Dermatology, they will receive a physician dermatologist diagnostic evaluation complimentary ($90 value) and a complimentary treatment (up to $100 value). You can find more information on Dr. Rosio’s experience and skills with laser treatments on AnewSkin Dermatology’s blog.

Dermatologist Warns Against Excess Use of OTC Antibiotic Creams

Do you get cuts and scrapes and automatically reach for one of the Poly/Neo/Baci ointment tubes in your drawer or medicine cabinet? You may be putting yourself at an increased risk for infections and allergic reactions of the skin, warns Dr. Tim Rosio, a Stanford trained board certified Dermatologist in El Dorado Hills and Auburn, CA. Dr. Rosio notes that most clean wounds benefit more from Vaseline or other non-antibiotic ointments for faster healing. In addiction, more severe strains of bacteria such as MRSA are often resistant against those ingredients, and this can encourage their growth and spread. Furthermore, you can trigger your skin to become allergic to ingredients such as Neomycin in these preparations. So Dr. Rosio advises people to clean their wound when possible with a good antiseptic wash or soap and water, pat dry, and apply Vaseline or Aquaphor like coatings, followed by a non-stick bandage. See your Dermatologist for more severe, contaminated wounds, those that are healing slower, or suspicious due to increased swelling, redness or pain. You can read more about how MRSA is affecting children on our blog. Dr. Rosio also talks about skin health on youtube.

Skin Cancer War Gets New Weapon

Skin cancer is not only the most common cancer; it outnumbers all other cancers ‘combined’ notes Dr. Tim Rosio. A new drug is shown to shrink skin cancer. This drug is very effective on patients with basal cell carcinoma (BCC). “Roche’s vismodegib shrank tumors or healed lesions in 43% of clinical trial participants with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma and 30% of those with another advanced form of BCC,” reported Reuters. Most of the time, skillful dermatologic excision with or without MOHS Surgery, and meticulous cosmetic dermatologic closure gives great results and cures the skin cancer.  Occasionally, however, I see in my patients and others have very advanced skin cancers, numerous cancers, or both,” says the skin cancer specialist. That’s when this medication may make a huge difference.  Skin cancer can be detected and prevented with annual skin cancer screenings. Come in today to get your yearly screening to make sure you’re free and clear of any form of skin cancer. Dr. Tim Rosio is a board certified Stanford trained Dermatologist with offices in El Dorado Hills and Auburn. Enhanced Lips Kiss…Don’t Tell, Now FDA Approved

“Enhancing your lips to what you’ve always wanted…but never had, or restoring yours to former glory with hyaluronic acid (HA) (Restylane) has just been approved by the FDA,” says Dr. Tim Rosio of AnewSKIN Dermatology in El Dorado Hills and Auburn, California. “Our long approved wrinkle filler is the main moisture holding ingredient in our skin. HA keeps the fullness of our skin from atrophy and dehydration, so the grape does NOT have to become a raisin! Or if the lip has shrunken with age, sun or traumatic damage and scarring, we reverse the process.” Dr. Rosio goes on to say, “restoring lips with Medicis’ Restylane has been a signature treatment of ours for many years,” says the Stanford trained board certified Dermatologist. Why is this a big deal now? “Because many people do not realize that it is a common practice in cosmetic and medical Dermatology, as well as other specialists, to use a medication or substance approved for a different specific treatment. For example, Dysport/Botox was initially approved only to cosmetically improve frown lines; but we were among the first to help relieve crows feet, horizontal forehead lines, neck bands, hyper-sweating disorders, and up to 24 other treatments now, including migraines.” Most people trust their Dermatologists’ opinion on these matters, but a smaller percentage are ‘late adopters’ and wait up to a decade after advances like this are commonplace and approved by the FDA, noted Dr. Rosio. In addition to beautifying normal lips or prematurely wrinkled lip lines, the specialist shared the following stories: “A woman fell down stairs, her teeth cutting through her lip permanently shearing off some of her tissue. I reconstructed the lip and used Restylane to restore her lips, in her words, to ‘better than before’ appearance and function. Another young woman needed a mole removed from her upper lip, and the flattening of the area called ‘Cupid’s Bow’ was unavoidable. I was able to restore this area and even further enhance her lips,” says Dr. Rosio. I usually achieve long lasting improvement of a year or more with my treatments. I’ve even had a few of my patients’ treatments last beyond two years. This FDA approval for our Restylane lip treatments is welcomed and long overdue. It extends to even more people the advantage of our lip enhancement and restoration. Now, even more people can “Kiss…but don’t tell,” said Dr. Rosio.

Check out our stories from patients at ANewSKIN Dermatology’s website and ANewSKIN’s blog. Dr. Rosio is a certified dermatologist trained surgeon  who is a member of the AAD and ASDS, as well as a cosmetic surgeon.
