“Enhancing your lips to what you’ve always wanted…but never had, or restoring yours to former glory with hyaluronic acid (HA) (Restylane) has just been approved by the FDA,” says Dr. Tim Rosio of AnewSKIN Dermatology in El Dorado Hills and Auburn, California. “Our long approved wrinkle filler is the main moisture holding ingredient in our skin. HA keeps the fullness of our skin from atrophy and dehydration, so the grape does NOT have to become a raisin! Or if the lip has shrunken with age, sun or traumatic damage and scarring, we reverse the process.” Dr. Rosio goes on to say, “restoring lips with Medicis’ Restylane has been a signature treatment of ours for many years,” says the Stanford trained board certified Dermatologist. Why is this a big deal now? “Because many people do not realize that it is a common practice in cosmetic and medical Dermatology, as well as other specialists, to use a medication or substance approved for a different specific treatment. For example, Dysport/Botox was initially approved only to cosmetically improve frown lines; but we were among the first to help relieve crows feet, horizontal forehead lines, neck bands, hyper-sweating disorders, and up to 24 other treatments now, including migraines.” Most people trust their Dermatologists’ opinion on these matters, but a smaller percentage are ‘late adopters’ and wait up to a decade after advances like this are commonplace and approved by the FDA, noted Dr. Rosio. In addition to beautifying normal lips or prematurely wrinkled lip lines, the specialist shared the following stories: “A woman fell down stairs, her teeth cutting through her lip permanently shearing off some of her tissue. I reconstructed the lip and used Restylane to restore her lips, in her words, to ‘better than before’ appearance and function. Another young woman needed a mole removed from her upper lip, and the flattening of the area called ‘Cupid’s Bow’ was unavoidable. I was able to restore this area and even further enhance her lips,” says Dr. Rosio. I usually achieve long lasting improvement of a year or more with my treatments. I’ve even had a few of my patients’ treatments last beyond two years. This FDA approval for our Restylane lip treatments is welcomed and long overdue. It extends to even more people the advantage of our lip enhancement and restoration. Now, even more people can “Kiss…but don’t tell,” said Dr. Rosio.
